Plans for Next Season Are Already Beginning
Barely had the echoes of the last season ended before the Naples Council on World Affairs Board of Directors began to assess the triumphs and challenges of the past year and make plans for the next one.
The Board meeting in April focused on lessons learned during the year and what needs to be done to make next season even stronger than the last. We offered members a very timely and in-depth lecture season as critical international events unfolded through the months. We expect very similar issues on the international scene to concern us next season as we watch tensions build in the Middle East and the ties between China, Russia, Iran and North Korea continue to strengthen.
Great Decisions groups will continue to make progress with making sure discussion materials are current, and a new editor of the book for next season is expected to produce stronger reference material. Model UN and Academic WorldQuest competitions had successful events and are assessing next year's programs, and 14 very smart students will embark on summer study at home and abroad under NCWA's scholarship program.
As an organization, we grew in membership last season, reversing the slide that began with the pandemic, and laid a foundation for continued growth next season and beyond. As the summer comes to a close, we will report on strategies for the peak season to make NCWA even stronger for the long term and even more stimulating and timely for you, our members.

It is a free benefit of your NCWA membership. | Student Programs Highlight March The impact of NCWA's programs for students hit full stride during March. This is the month when student involvement is showcased and when young people emerge with in-depth experiences that can shape lives and careers. Here is a summary of what NCWA does to enhance the future of the area's youth and perhaps to plant the seeds for contributions or careers in international affairs and diplomacy. Model UN The 31st annual Southwest Florida Model United competition has just concluded at Florida Gulf Coast University. Winning teams and students are listed on our Model UN pages; click here for more information. Academic WorldQuest Naples' newest school, Aubrey Rogers High School, won the NCWA High School Academic WorldQuest competition March 24 and will travel to Washington DC for the national competition in April. For the first time a group of four freshmen earned the champion's title. The national competition by the World Affairs Councils of America. They were among 84 students and 21 teams from six high schools in Collier County that competed. Second and third places went to Gulf Coast High School teams. Click here to learn more.

The Bozmans and Brown were on the team that won the AWQ Middle School championship in 2023. NCWA’s middle school AWQ took place at the Community School on March 2. The results were: Community School of Naples, first place; Pine Ridge Middle School, second place; Community School of Naples, third place. Global Scholar Surprises A Speaker Maria Rueda, a senior at Immokalee High School and one of NCWA's Global Scholars, surprised distinguished lecturer Robert Daly, a leading authority on Chinese-U.S. relations, when she introduced him in Mandarin Chinese.
